I love how different lighting and perspectives can tell you a unique story about a subject and its environment. In January 2022 I got to spend an magical few days in Ballot’s Bay Nature Reserve getting to know the daily routine of a very friendly Cape Grassbird. The light at daybreak, the mist that rolled in from the ocean and the unique vegetation, created a mood that was rich in emotion and drama. This backlit image reminds me of how I felt as I observed this charismatic bird and watched the early morning sun light up the fynbos around him.
